How Can Libraries Fit Into Data Curation?

I was asked this question today by one of the associate deans at the University of Tennessee Libraries. This is an important question that will need to be answered. Everyone who applies for a job at an academic library or encourages a library to get into data curation should be able to answer this question clearly. I told this person that libraries need to reach out to the faculty. They need to provide services to help researchers with data management. They need to provide a place where researchers can share their data (i.e. an institutional repository). They need to lead the way in digital preservation techniques.
